Hi Everyone,
So last night we got the call. It was quite a shocking one to us all.
All four of the Elders serving here in LaPlace are gone. Both the Spanish Elders and the English elders. So yeah, that was definitely something that we were not expecting.
We still haven't figured out where we are going, but there are three options for me right now.
I can first go back to the Westbank where I started my mission. I can go to Chalmette(Downtown New Orleans, and Lower 9th Ward) or I can go deep into the Bayou down in Houma.
Whatever happens I am pretty excited for. Time is flying over here for me. This next transfer, there are many things going to happen. We have Fathers Day, Aimee's Birthday, The 4th of July and also Cally's birthday. I can't believe it is already this time of the year again.
These past few days have been pretty cool but also pretty sad. We have been trying to say goodbye to everyone that we can. I have seen a crazy amounts of tears coming from so many people I admire. I didn't realize how much I really had helped these people I have come to love down here in LaPlace. There are many people that I am going to miss and I am super grateful for everything they have done for me.
One of our investigators, today broke into tears and the next thing you know she was bombarding us with gifts. She gave us ties and then the next thing you know she had put something small into my hand. It was a little wooden cross that was made out of olive wood from Jerusalem, supposedly from the Garden of Gethsemane. She had gotten it when she visited there and wanted to give it to me. It was really quite nice of her!
Anita, the Lady who we help at the Horse ranch also broke down. She gave us huge picture frames and thank you notes for helping her with all that we did. It was a cool experience!
One person I am going to miss a lot I think is my ward mission leader. Brother Alvin Brown. That guy is a clown. I love him so much and will miss him heaps. I don't think I have seen so much character in such a small body. I think Declan is taller than him?? Ha ha I always joke with him about his height but he is a great guy. He has taught me a lot about missionary work but also a lot about how to become truly Christlike.
My last night in LaPlace we got a little basketball night together and we thought it'd be a good time getting everything together and taking it to the court one last time. I am going to miss those guys a lot. Jason is a stud and is going to be a great missionary. He is almost finished with his papers. Fernando also. Another young man, Justin who is brother browns son is also preparing, but he has to finish high school first. Those guys are definitely family to me. They taught me a lot especially when we had the chance of going on splits. Last night I had to teach Jason one last thing about not reaching. Don't reach in young blood, I dunked 6 times on you.. Hopefully, that got into his head. Haha
But yeah, LaPlace was The Place and truly did bring a lot of Learning and Growing, probably some of the most that I have undergone over the whole length of my mission. Patience, Love, Charity, Faith are definitely things I have become a lot stronger in, not to mention my Spanish getting a whole lot better. I am super grateful for the time I have had here.
Take care until next time,
Elder Whitmarsh
