Maybe I gotta stop counting down there but man this week I drop under 7 months left and It's creeping up on me.
This week a lot happened! I'll start out with a funny story.
So we were at this less-actives house and talking about life and we shared a message with them. After we had finished they started talking about barbecuing. Right next to us was an old BBQ Grill type thing. Well, I asked If we could use it. She says, "Of Course, it's all yours" Well here is where it gets crazy. So at home we remembered that we had Sausages and Chicken and my comp and I started getting pumped. We go past the store real quick and get some coals so that we can cook. We get home and we start it up and try and get it ready. Well, we could not get the coals to stay on. So I came up with a great idea, maybe not so great, of putting the coals in the oven for a little bit. We turn it up and put them in. We let them cook for like 5 minutes and then my comp decides he wants some chili for the hot dogs. So we walk to the corner store real fast. We get back and as we come around the corner we can smell smoke. We both start flipping out. I sprint in the house and there is smoke everywhere. I open up the oven and there is even more smoke. He quickly grabbed then and put them in the BBQ. After that, it was all good but obviously I learnt an important lesson that day. Well, a man in our apartment complex walks down his stairs. He was like "Man, whatcha'll doin in der, you been cookin inside. whatr'yall crazy?" I was like "Nah man, like the coals, weren't lighting and stuff, ya feel me?" He was like "ahyeah Igotchu"
He walks off just laughing and then we went on to cooking one of the best meals of my mission. I don't want to say the best because some members might get offended, but it was pretty good not gonna lie!!
Next story. This week we tried to go down the list of the ward roster and try and see those extra less-actives who we hadn't met yet. So we start at the top and go down. Things are going great until this one man answers the door. Let me paint the picture. So Old 65 yr old man answers the door in a red mechanic jumpsuit with one eye pointing one way and the other eye right at us. Picture the Prospector dude on Toy Story. Yeah, that's him. Ok so we start talking and we find that he is not a member and so we start talking. He says "I'm not really a religious guy, just a spiritual kind of guy"
We respond with the classic "Well, yeah what we do as missionaries is, we go around trying to increase the spirituality of all those we come in contact with."
He says "Well when I say that, I mean I'm more scientific"
For anyone who has ever gotten that response knows things are about to get real funny.
Well, he says "Here's the thing. I believe in Aliens."
My Comp and I try the hardest we have ever had to not to laugh. He is like "no really. There are three types of Aliens out here. They live in Northern China and Southern Russia. Right now We are dealing with the grey heads. The little guys with the big heads. About 3000 years ago they were having nuclear battles with their machines"
It kept going on from there, but yeah It was impossible for us to get anything through. He said he never wanted to see his family again, or his wife. He said he hopes the aliens pour his cremated body into the river or use it for experiments or something. It was pretty funny, but after I just felt super sad for the guy. Here he was, an old guy, with no hope for anything. No greater being, besides aliens. Nothing better than what he was at now. It was just a sad moment.
On Saturday, we went to conference! It was awesome. Super Uplifting and it's always good listening to it as a missionary. The ones that stood out to me were when they spoke about the importance of mothers and fathers. I'm grateful to have two of the greatest! Love you guys! It also talked about families a lot and about how they are the way to exaltation! I don't know what is being hinted at there but man, I'm pumped for that hug at the airport mum! Haha! Love you!
I love Elder Hales talk and Elder Holland's of Course, but Elder Bednar's right at the end there, it topped it all off!!
Hope you guys had a great week and have an even greater one this week!
Next week is transfers. so I'll be emailing on Tuesday! Love y'all!!
Good Luck Aimee! You're gonna kill it! See you in 18.
