Time be rolling!!
Storytime. So this past week, we were driving down the road in this little town called Amelia. Amelia has most of our Spanish work and is literally just a town filled with Hispanics! It's pretty cool. Well we are driving down the road and we see this Cajun dude walk out of his house and it is as if he started running at us. We were already confused because this town does not have many people besides just Hispanics. OK, so he starts running at us and we are confused so we just keep driving. We pass his house and he is still running. He gets to the middle of the road and stops. We look in the rear view mirror. He picks up a freshly run-over squirrel and then turns around and starts running back into his house!
That's just a little taste of Louisiana for y'all. I swear I have had thousands of weird little things like that just happen almost every day. I feel like the more and more they happen the less and less I recognize them. After the mission, I am going to come back here and realize just how crazy this place was. I love it here!
But yeah less than 8 months left. On Friday, we were at our Zone Training Meeting and all the new guys in the mission stood up and introduced themselves, said how long they had been out and all that good stuff. I looked around the room and realized that I was like the 3rd oldest person there. it was super weird. They all put up their hands and were like "For all you new missionaries... blah blah blah" and then the next one said something about something he learned on his mission, and then it just hit me and I was like oh shoot! I'm not gonna lie I think I'll be crying way hard when I have to come home. Especially having to take off the name tag! It really is a blessing being out here!
Our branch is starting to get better and better! We had a cool Branch Council meeting on Sunday and discussed the needs of the branch and I'm excited to see how this turns out. We have a kid that we are teaching that is ten years old who is getting interviewed for Baptism this week. His family is less active and so we are helping him to back to church. Hopefully, he can help bring back the fire.
On Friday after ZTM, we were walking down the street and we saw this man. We went and talked to him and got to know him. We started talking to him and I could've sworn I was talking to some dude from a James Bond movie or something! This guy just had A thick accent and had that European kind of look. Yall know what I'm saying? I was wanting so bad to ask him to say some famous movie quote or something. We started talking to him about the Book Of Mormon and he was pumped. He said, "Oh I love history from America!" We stopped by the next morning and left him with that and had a big talk about the trinity and It was pretty awesome! He seemed very solid! We are going to follow up with him this week and see how that goes. We are way pumped for Alec.
We have an Investigator names Aleesha who we met with this week also. This lady is the sweetest. Last week we taught the stop smoking workshop with her and went from there. This week we went over with the Senior Couple in our ward, The Nelsons and we had an awesome lesson. Not gonna lie, It was probably one of the best lessons that I have ever been in on my mission. My Comp and I just click way good and everything flows very well. The spirit was very strong and she just kept smiling the whole time. It was a great experience.
This week I am going on 2 exchanges. We have exchanges with the other Elders in our District and also exchanges with the Zone Leaders, and are ending off with a Specialized Training with President Hansen at the end of the week! It's gonna be packed!
Our Branch is so funny. So On Saturday night I get a call from Jose, A member of the branch presidency asking me to give a talk. Here is how the phone call went. "Elder Canelo, you ready for your first talk in this branch!" I said, "Sure, Just give me a topic and I've got you!" He said ok "You choose." I said, "How long?" He said, "45mins. You will be the only speaker make it good" hahaha I hung up and just sat there like WHAT..... 45minutes with no topic. Also, the Hispanics call me Canelo here. The Mexican Boxer. It's pretty funny! Hispanics call me Canelo Alvarez, White people make some stupid joke about Ron Weasley or something, and then everyone else calls me blake griffin. It's pretty funny!!
Well, we get to church and apparently talks had already been chosen and he was just messing with me. I sat there the night before and was ready to just make up something as good as possible on the spot! it was rough. On Sunday, I translated for all three hours. Shoot it's rough sometimes. It shows you how much better you need to be at Spanish. People start talking about some scary dreams they had where they got attacked and stuff like that. It's pretty funny translating sometimes. So yeah Spanish is my favorite. Still got a good way to go haha!
After sacrament meeting, this Young Women stopped me and told me to speak Spanish to her. I asked her why and she kept on saying Please Please Please do it. I told her we would be at her house this week and I'd be teaching the lessons and she would hear it then. She then says, "Ok I just want to hear it because my sister said you're fluent and speak better Spanish than me." Haha, I was pretty pumped! That's the struggle, though. When translating you get super humbled and realize how much you need to rely on the Lord and then people come up to you and say stuff like that! The struggle is real.
I'm so grateful to be in this little town of Mo City! It's a good place and I am super excited to serve here! Who knows, I might finish out my mission here!! Love you guys heaps and am so grateful for everything that y'all do for me! Have a good week!!
Oh also, what's all this news about BYU football I am hearing about!? Someone tell me about it!
Lovee y'all!
