Woooahhh Letss goooooo!! OK so this week is probably THE most cultured week of my mission! Mardi Gras parades were still going and little did I know, that the craziness was only just beginning.
Tuesday we were able to go to a Mardi Gras parade in Eunice. There was so many funny things happening. Down here in the south literally nobody is home on Mardi Gras day(AKA.. Fat Tuesday)
So we go to the parade and everything carries on as planned.. People absolutely wasted, riding around on their horses and throwing beads. That literally is Mardi Gras, along with people dressed up in some crazy outfits. It was pretty funny. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience that you CANNOT miss.. So this guy comes around the corner and you could tell he was not feeling his oats. He was swaying back and forth. Next thing you know he is running right towards the sisters and us until he trips over.. He gets up and starts running again. He starts chasing down a moving float.. Well for some reason he decided he was going to try and jump onto a moving float. He gets as close as he can and he jumps as high as possible....andddddd.. Nope. He missed it. His foot got onto the float and then he just fell on his face and layed there for a few seconds until the police came and carried him away. Poor Old Man.
Well, the stories did not stop there.. This man runs up to us and starts talking to all the missionaries. We began talking and he asked us where we were all from. We go around and say where we are from. I say Australia.. obvi.. So then he says "Alright.... You're the one." he hands me a chicken that he caught during the mardi gras parade and then he says "I know you're used to holding crazy animals. " "Ok now I'm going to box the chicken."
So he proceeds to start boxing the chicken.. I was quite confused and then I decided to kinda start boxing him with the chicken. And all he did was dodge my shots until he just nails the chicken in the head with his fist.. So so weird. HAHAAH video below.
Well during the parade we contacted ALOT of people. We talked to many people and many seemed interested, although, they were quite drunk.... So I don't really know how successful it was.
The next day was Wednesday. Sis McDavid took us out to eat and then I saw someone walk into the restaurant with some black stuff on her head.. I literally almost told her she had something on her head when I realized that it was Ash Wednesday. I felt so ignorant. I would end up being the person who accidentally says something like that.. Well, Elder Peterson and I decided we would go to a Catholic mass and pay our respects. I enjoyed it so much! And I feel like I learnt so much about the catholic religion that day. It was a neat experience. I left my planner in there too, so we had an opportunity to go back and talk to the Priest that was preaching for the day. That was also pretty neat, and luckily we were able to grab the planner!
Thursday involved a bunch of trying to find people to teach. So far we are still looking, but I know that the Lord will place people in our path as we keep searching for people to find. If you guys could keep that in your prayers, I know that would definitely help us out alot!
On Friday we had another Mission Conference with a general authority. Elder Kopishke of the 70 came. All I can say was WOW. It was probably the coolest meeting I have been to on my mission.. Well nothing will beat getting to shake hands and hug Elder Cook, but this was awesome. We came up with a new key indicator for us to strive and hit each week. Per Companionship we are striving to contact 20 people a day, not including our tracting or Referrals. So it is tough. He promised us that as we hit those numbers, our investigators will skyrocket by ten fold. We are excited to see that happen, even though it may be tough. We've got this!
That is my week for yall!! Love all of you so much and hope you have THE best week!!
Hasta La Proxima mis amigos.
