So time is fuhlying! I am like 4 and half weeks from that 1 year mark and it gives me the chills.. I can't believe how quickly it goes by! Life is good and the area is better. This past weekend was such a relaxing one. Conference all weekend and just spiritual upliftment was definitely needed. I learnt alot!
Ok so there were a few things I forgot to mention last week. So we get a call from this Hispanic man who is one of our investigators. Things seemed a little frantic and you could tell that he was anxious. He starts talking to us and I asked what we could do to help. Well he said that his son needs a ride to the emergency room! Well we dropped everything and got a ride. We go with a member and pick them up and it turns out they needed to go to the New Orleans Children Hospital Emergency Room. Well the member could not speak any spanish so we followed behind to the hospital. When we got there we pretty much had to translate the whole time. It was pretty intense. Well, It turns out that the little boys friend had stuck an eraser in his ear and it was now stuck... The doctor says "Did you put something in your ear??" The mother understood spanish very well and she would answer to us and we would tell them what she said.. So she asks the little boy. "Tu Amigo puso una goma de borrar en su oido?" The little boy just nods and says "Si, Mama, Si"
(Yes Mum, Yes)
I was dying... The doctor is just standing there wondering what he was going to do. Haha so that was our adventure for the week. It was super tiring but super rewarding too!
So another funny story.. So we went to sonic right after the Priesthood session on saturday night. Well, while we were there, guess who walks by? Juan, the guy who had played me in basketball the week earlier. Well, he realized and was like "Ahh man, I'm sorry dude... I have to work.." Everyone was like, who is that? And I said "Juan, you wanna tell them who you are?" He said "Aiight, yeah well I'm the guy who got balled up and has to come to church.. " Everyone smiled and he said "Yeah we got Blake Griffin right here!" "Blakeee griffin in the housee" It was pretty funny!
This week we had some awesome experiences. There were some good and some bad. Well, we took a member out on Splits. He is preparing to go on a mission. Well we had two super powerful lessons while he was with us. He is hispanic but doesn't consider himself fluent and so he came with us and he tried his best. Well it gets to the testimony and he starts bearing it. Yeah He didnt know alot of the words he wanted to say but it was super powerful. I translated for him and it hit our investigator hard. He said "Se que estas cosas que me han ensenado son verdaderas, pero necesito orar y recibir una respuesta para mi mismo"
Pretty much, I know these things that yall have taught me are true, but I need to pray and get the answer for myself. It was so cool! We were so pumped and Jason was too!
We had a pretty powerful lesson with another investigator too and we shared the restoration and committed her to Baptism. It was really sweet! Things are going really well over here. Another investigator that we have been teaching dropped us.. Her mum was getting really upset and started threatening to do things to her and so she wanted to completely avoid the situation. Once again, Jason bore his testimony and you saw the change in her eyes. It was so cool.
On Thursday we had a meeting in Baton Rouge which Pres just chose a few people to come to. Most of the people there were leaders in the mission but I was also invited. Well people from Salt Lake were here. Specifically like the whole missionary department. Well we start talking about teaching and then out of nowhere they start talking about the ipads. We were all getting so pumped. Well for 45minutes they talked about ipads, showed us the apps we would be using, talked about proselyting on facebook and all these things and then were like "Oh, yeah, you aren't getting them yet"
Everyone was so bummed... They said we would be getting them in the next few months so we will see what happens with that!
Conference really pumped me up! I loved the first talk during Priesthood by Elder M. Russell ballard -The Greatest Generation on Young Adults. It was pretty powerful and I guess it touched me especially as a missionary. It's pretty cool being a missionary and then going to conference and realizing how many times they talk about their missions and certain scenarios from missions. I just felt like I could relate a lot this conference.!
Well, that's it for me! I love yall and hope you all had a great Easter and General Conference weekend!
Love,
Elder Whitmarsh
